Located behind Herod’s palace, a Hippodrome looking like structure was uncovered in the 1990’s. Although it had all thefeatures of a Roman race track for horses (circus), in the 4th Century CE it was converted into an Ampitheater. And acorrding to archaeologist J. Patrich it also functioned as a stadium. Being so, the complex is titled as a – “Hippo-stadium”. A smiliar multifunction entertainment facility built by King Herod was discovered also in Jericho.
