Capernaum is one of the most important Holy Christian Sites in the Holy Land. Its central part, maintained by the Franciscans, bears an elaborate ancient synagogue, and a modern octagonal church built above ruins related to the Peter and Andrew’s home in Capernaum. Its eastern part, maintained by the Greek-Orthodox Church, bears little archaeology, but in 1931 a small yet impressive Greek Church was erected in it.
Visiting Capernaum Greek-Orthodox Church
The church is open every day of the week, 8:00 to 16:00. Visitors are requested to dress modestly and speak softly.
A visit to the site can be combined with a guided day tour of the Galilee.
