Cairo’s “City of the Dead” is one of the oldeset and biggest cemeteries in Cairo.
Named by the locals “El’Arafa” (Arabic: ‘the cemetery’), the cemetery is a 6.5 km long plot filled with tombs and mausoleums, as well as living people who live and work among the dead. These are the poorest residents of Cairo, similar to those residing in “Zabbalean” – the garbage city.
