Cairo Tower

Cairo Tower (Arabic: “Borg al-Qahira”) was completed in 1961, and to this day it is the tallest building in Egypt. 187 m above Gezira Island, “Cairo Tower” provides a great panoramic view of Cairo and the Nile, and even the Pyramids of Giza .

It’s design echos the Pharonic lotus plant, and on its top is a rotating deck and a restaurant.

It was initiated by the Egyptian president Gamel Abdel Nasser , directing a personal gift of $6m from the USA, which he considered as a bribe, and accordingly placed it in a visible location from the American embassy in Cairo, “as a taunting symbol of Arab resistance and pride”.

The tower was restored in 2011.
