Cairo is the Capital and the largest city of Egypt, with a population of some 9.5 million.

Cairo was founded in 969 CE by the Fatimids and mostly a Muslim caharacter, yet it bears also the famous Pyramids of Giza  complex, and its vicinity is also ancient Memphis  and Dahshur Pyramids .

Of its Muslim history one can appreciate especially Saladin’s Citadel , as well as several monumental mosques.

To appreciate its Christian and (former) Jewish history, one should visit The Hanging Church Sergius and Bacchus Church The Cave Church / Simon the Tanner Monastery , and Ben-Ezra Syngagogue .

The city is also home of the significant Egyptian Museum , markets like “el Moez” / Muizz Street Khan el-Khalili  and the Street of the Tentmakers  as well as modern attractions like Al-Azahar Park  and the Cairo Tower  and soon to open Grand Egyptian Museum .
