Saladin’s Citadel

The citadel of Saladin (Known also as “Cairo Citadel” or simply “Citadel”) is a massive fortification created by the Saladin

Completed in 1183 CE, it functioned until the 19th century as the seat of Egpt’s government, and especially after announced in 1976 by UNSECO as a “World Heritage Site”, it developed into a popular tourist attraction.

The complex contains also three mosques and three musuems: Artisans Museum, Carriage Museum, and the Egyptian Military Museum.
