May 5th, Monday

Arrival, transfer to Jerusalem. WELCOME TO ISRAEL!

Being the Independance day of Israel (Iyar 5th) at 10:30 we drive to Tel-Aviv port to watch the air show.

 In the evening (18:00) we will have dinner with prof. S. Farber, who works at QQR.

May 7th, Wednseday

bar kokhba cavesWe begin the from Mount of Olives Viewpoint , and then drive to the “Shephela” to explore Tel Lachish , Bar Kokhba caves , View David vs. Goliath Battle site from Azekah , and see Modi’in 

Upon return students can be dropped off at Ben Yehudah Street .

May 8th, Thursday

Fragment of one of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

This day is deoveted to expereince the “Capitol hill” of the State of Israel. We start at the Israel Museum , focusing on the “Shrine of the Book” Model of the Second Temple Jewish Art and Life Wing ,  Archaeological Wing . 

At 14:00 we have a Tour of the Knesset ; followed by a quick visit by the Supreme Court Building .  

In the evening (17:00) we will have a lecture by Benny Porat.

May 9th, Friday

IMG_7599The day begins with a mini lecture: Sabbath from antiquity to modernity.

At 13:30 we go to Mahane Yehudah Market ; and later walk in Mea shearim before Shabbath.

18:30 Friday evening dinner.

May 10, Saturday

Free day in Jerusalem.

Havdallah service – Maiersdorf patio overlooking the Old City, with Avi Levi-Stevenson (30 min after Shabbat ends).

May 11, Sunday

Our day starts with morning lecture on the women in the kotel.

At 10:40 we head to the Western Wall tunnels  , followed by a visit to Pools of Bethesda , and later walking along the Kidron valley, and visiting the Kidron Valley Tombs .

Towards 15:00 we reach the City of David  , and we assess King David’s Palace , and Area G  . at 16:15 we enter Warren’s shaft  , and walk along Hezekiah’s Tunnel  , to the Pool of Siloam  . Upon return students can be dropped off at Ben Yehudah Street  .

May 12th, Monday

saint george thumbnailThis day is devoted to a hike to Saint George Monastery   and a visit to the Good Samaritan Inn   site, and the Crusaders fort next to it.

Upon return students can be dropped off at the Mamilla Pedestrian Mall .

17:00 lecture of Prof. Marc  Brettler on the Bible in Israeli Culture.

May 13th, Tuesday

sifting projectAt 9:15 we join the unique Temple Mount Debris Sifting Project  , followed by a drive to the Jewish Quarter , and seeing sites like the Cardo  and the Broad Wall .

At 13:4o we watch Burnt House  movie on site.

Upon return students can be dropped off at the Ben Yehudah Street  .

May 14th, Wednesday

via dolorosaHaving a Christian focus today we walk along the “Via Dolorosa , to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre  , and later drive to Mount of olives and visit the Tomb of the Prophets , Dominus Flevit , and the Garden of Gethsemane .

For dinner we head to Abu gosh, and possibly also visit its new mosque.

16:00 lecture by Nafez Nazzal.

May 15th, Thursday

bahaianHeading north we visit Bahaian Terraced Gardens ; and the Ahmedian mosque in Haifa, ascend to the Carmel for a Druze  lunch, and see Jaffa‘s  sites on the way back.

May 16th, Friday

yad vashem A day devoted to the Holocaust will be comprised by a mini lecture and a visit to “Yad Vashem”  guided by a local representative.

May 18th, Sunday

rosh hanikra cable carHeading north for a few days, we tour Caesarea , and enter the Rosh Hanikra Grottoes 

At our place of stay in Akko  we will have a tour of the Akko Mosaics synagogue 

In the evning we might join a traditional Lag Bao’mer bonfire.

May 19th, Monday

Greek CapernaumLearning on another perpective of the Holocaust, at 9:00 we visit “Lohamei Hagetaot” museum, and then drive to Jewish spiritual center of Safed .

In the afternoon we visit major Christian-Jewish site of Capernaum .

May 20th, Tuesday

beit shean latrinebeit sheanHeading south, we pass by the Roman remains of Ancient Tiberias  and  stop at Talmudic synagogue of Hamat Tiberias , we later pass by Kinneret Farm  and stop at Beit She’an .

After lunch at Dagdegan we also see ancient synagogue of Beth Alpha  before heading towards the Dead Sea area.

May 21st, Wednesday

genesis land

We start the day with a visit to Qumran , where the famous Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, and continue to “Genesis Land”  (11:30) where we experience a camel ride, an “Abraham style” hospitality and lunch.

We then return to Ein-Gedi to view the Ein-Gedi ancient Synagogue  and possibly hike up to the waterfalls at Ein-Gedi Nature Reserve .

May 22nd, Thursday

masada cable carBeating the heat and the crowds, we ascend to the top of Masada  and later visit Masada Museum . After assessing the dramatic remains, we head to a swim at the Dead Sea, before heading to Tel-Aviv.

 May 23rd, Friday

palmach museum1 On our last day of the study tour will begin with a mini lecture, followed by a visit the Diaspora Museum (Beth Hatefutsoth)  and the Palmach Museum , and then head to Jerusalem for a few more days, before heading back home!.
