The Karnak Temple Complex is really a set of Temples built over a long period of som 1800 yeats, from the 20th century BCE and up to Ptolemaic period. It was called in ancient Egyptian Ipet-Isut (“The most selected of Places”), and was the main worship site of the Theban Triade: Amun, his consort Mut, and their son Khonsu.
The large and impressive site is one of the most visited sites in Egype, second only to the Pyramids in Giza.
