Ancient Arad and Beer-Sheva are significant archaeological sites located in the Negev. We begin with a drive to Tel Arad , where we appreciate important remains from Canaanite times that relate to the Biblical Exodus (Numbers 6), and at the citadel review an Israelite fortress and a one-of-a-kind Judahic Temple (!).
Next we drive to Tel Be’er Sheva which was an administrative center of Beer-Sheva in Isralite times. Large scale excavations at the site uncovered a rare example of city planning from the Iron age, as well as an impressive resevoir, and highly significant evidence for a cultic altar that was taken out of use, possibly in the religious reforms of King Hezekiah (I Kings 18).
