Qasr el-Yahud (Baptism Site)

Qasr el-Yahud (Arabic “The crossing [place] of the Jews”) marks by Christian tradition the place of several Biblical events: The site of the Baptism of Jesus, the place where the Israelites crossed the Jordan River   to enter the promised land, and the place of the asension of Elijah to heaven.

The site was a popular destinations of Christian pilgrims in the Byzantine and Crusaders period, and in 2010 it was finally re-opened to the Public.
