Tel Goded is the Hebraised name of “Tel Jdeideh” (“The New Mound”). The site was excavated on the turn of the 20th century by Bliss and Macalister, and their main discovery was a Hellenistic villa. Sporadic evidence from the Iron age might be evidence that the site was the hometown of the prophet Micha (“Moreshet Gath”) in Biblical times.
At the Eastern foothil of the mound are various remains of caves, some used by Jewish rebels as hideouts during the Bar-Kokhba rebellion (132-135 CE).
