The Street of the tentmakers (“Sharia Khayamiya”) is one of the most colorfull markets in Cairo.
It is located at the southern end of “el Moez” / Muizz Street , beyond “Bab Zuwayla”, The Mediaval gate of Cairo.
The Street of the tentmakers is center of Khayamiya applique, a textile decoration used in the past to decorate tents.
Now days the khayamiya appliques are used mostly for curtains, cushion covers, bags, and bedspreads.
