Two-Day Christian-Themed Tour to the Golan Heights

Two-Day Christian-Themed Tour to the Golan Heights

This two-day journey through the Galilee and Golan Heights follows the footsteps of Jesus and early Christianity, blending biblical history, breathtaking landscapes, and cultural encounters. From the sacred sites of Nazareth and the Sea of Galilee to the remote northern regions where Jesus walked and Paul’s conversion took place, this tour provides a deep spiritual and historical experience.

Day 1: Exploring Jesus’ Ministry in the Galilee

Morning: Nazareth and Cana

Cana wedding church 2The tour begins with a morning departure from Tel Aviv as you head north to Nazareth, where Jesus spent his early years. You’ll visit the Church of the Annunciation, one of the holiest sites in Christianity, commemorating the angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary. Nearby, explore the Church of St. Joseph, believed to stand over Joseph’s carpentry workshop. A short drive away is Cana, the site of Jesus’ first miracle—turning water into wine at a wedding feast (John 2:1-11). Here, couples can renew their wedding vows in a touching ceremony at the Wedding Church of Cana.

Midday: Holy Christian Sites Around the Sea of Galilee

Next, travel to the serene Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Overlooking the Sea of Galilee, this peaceful hilltop is an ideal place for reflection and prayer. Descending toward the lake’s shores, arrive at Capernaum, often referred to as “Jesus’ own town” (Matthew 9:1). Walk through the remains of the ancient synagogue where Jesus taught and visit the House of Peter, one of the earliest Christian worship sites. Nearby, stop at the Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha, marking the miracle of the loaves and fishes (Matthew 14:13-21).

Evening: Overnight Stay in Tiberias or the Golan Heights

As the day ends, check into a hotel in Tiberias or the Golan Heights for dinner and a restful night. Enjoy the tranquil views of the Sea of Galilee before preparing for the next day’s adventure.

Day 2: The Golan Heights—Biblical and Modern History

Morning: Caesarea Philippi and the Road to Damascus

Begin the day with a visit to Caesarea Philippi (Banias), located at the base of Mount Hermon. In Matthew 16:13-20, this is where Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?”, and Peter declared Him as the Messiah. Review the ruins of the ancient city and the pagan temples that stood here in Jesus’ time. From here, you’ll trace the path Paul may have taken on the Road to Damascus (Acts 9:3), where he experienced his dramatic conversion.

Midday: Mount Bental, Valley of Tears, and Druze Hospitality

naseeba kubbehStop at Mount Bental, one of the highest peaks in the Golan, offering stunning panoramic views over Syria, Lebanon, and Israel. From this vantage point, you’ll get a deep insight into both ancient and modern conflicts. Nearby, visit the Valley of Tears, the site of a fierce battle during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. Walk through the battle-scarred bunkers and hear the heroic stories of the soldiers who defended Israel’s northern border. For lunch, experience the warm hospitality at a Druze family, an ethnic and religious minority with deep roots in the region. Savor authentic Druze cuisine while learning about their unique traditions and beliefs.
