Day 1 – The Mount of Olives and the Via Dolorosa
The tour begins on the Mount of Olives, where sacred landmarks reflect key moments in the life of Jesus. You will visit the Chapel of Ascension, commemorating the site of His ascension, and the Pater Noster Church, where the Lord’s Prayer is remembered in many languages. Nearby, at the Dominus Flevit Church, you will have the opportunity to pause at the site where Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Reaching the bottom of the slope, you will enter the ancient olive trees of the Garden of Gethsemane, the quiet Grotto of Gethsemane, and Mary’s Tomb in the nearby valley.
Crossing the Kidron valley, you will pass by the traditional site of the martyrdom of Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr. From here the focus shifts to the Via Dolorosa, where pilgrims retrace the path of Jesus to His crucifixion. Along the way you will see the Pools of Bethesda, associated with miraculous healing, the Praetorium where Jesus was judged, and the Ecce Homo Arch. Continuing along the winding route of the Via Dolorosa, you will arrive at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of Christianity’s holiest places, marking both the crucifixion and the resurrection.
