Morning – Discover Akko

Inhabited since Canaanite times, the old city today reflects mainly the Ottoman period, but with significant remains also from the time of the Crusaders. Its main attractions include the Hospitallers Citadel / “The Knights Halls”Al-Jazzar Mosque; the local Bazaar; and the Templars Tunnel. In the local port, one can go for a Boat ride in a regular or speed boat, and near the old city, the Akko Mosaics synagogue; the Tomb of Baha’u’llah (Bahji) are also worth a visit.

Noon – View the Bahai Gardens in Haifa

But it bears several points of interest, and the Bahai Gardens. Formed over a steep slope of Carmel Mountain, the 19 terraces above and beyond the Golden Dome adorn the tomb of the Bab, one of the founders of the Bahai faith. We review these sacred and beautiful gardens from the lower and upper viewpoints and move on to  – Caesarea.

Afternoon – Explore Ancient Caesarea

caesarea aquaduct shutterstockFounded in the first century BCE by King Herod ‘the Great,’ Caesarea was a major port city. Its harbor was the most prominent man- made port at the time of its construction, and the city eventually became the province’s capital. Caesarea was also known in Christian times for its library, second only to the one in Alexandra. Today, its rich remains include a well preserved and reactivated Theatre, Herod’s Palace by the sea, two hippodromes, and much more. Walking among its ruins, we will learn about the city’s glorious past and possibly have a coffee or gelato stop before returning. It’s a great way to end a great day!
