John the Baptist and Prodromos church in Jerusalem
John the Baptist and Prodromos church is a small complex in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem’s old city, owned by the Greek-Orthodox church. It is unclear whether the church was built in the 5th century, but the Crusaders used it in the 12th century.
Several sanctified artifacts were uncovered during renovations of the church in the 19th century. One was identified as a piece of John the Baptist’s skull. That relic is on display at the center of the church to this day. In 2018, the wall paintings inside the church were renewed, giving its Byzantine-style interior a vivid and colorful appearance.
