Saint Stephen’s Monastery in Jerusalem
Located in the Kidron valley, the Monastery of Saint Stephen is claiming to be over the placed where Stephanus was stoned to death (Acts 7:59). The crusaders were appearently to first to suggest the event to happen in the Kidron valley, next to the Lions gate, but this monastery, built in 1967, is the first building to commemorate the event at this location. The execution site is said to be on a rocky slope just next to the monastery. It is now a memorial site for Stephanus, with its wall decorated with various Christian themes in Byzantine-Greek style. Despite its central location and importance, this site is not frequently visited by Christian pilgrims.
A tour of Saint Stephen Monastery can be combined with a guided day tour of Jerusalem.
