“Independence Hall” on Rothschild Boulevard in Tel-Aviv, is the place where on Friday, May 14th 1948 the state of Israel was declared. The building was functioning as the art museum of Tel-Aviv, and it was chosen for being a relatively secured public building.
The declaration took 22 minutes, and then everybody rushed home before shabbath, and before the Arab attack. The next morning Egyptian planes bombed Tel-Aviv, and the second and longer and bitter phase of the war of Independence began, but the Jews have declared a state!.
In 2019 the “Independence Hall” was closed for major renovations and upgrade. An exhibition of the building and the event is presented nearby, at Shalom Meyer Tower.
