Timnah was a biblical town in the Shfelah. In its vicinity Judah Impregnated his daughter in law Tamar, and later commanded she will be burnt.. (Genesis 38).

Timnah is identified at “Tel el-Batashi / Tel Batash” along Sorek stream. It was excavated in 1977-1989 by A. Mazar and G. Kelm. The main finds are a Canaanite city from the Middle Bronze Age, refortified again in the 8th-7th century BCE, most likely against the Assyrian and the Babylonians.
