Dormition Abbey

“Dormition Abbey” is a Benedictine establishment built over the traditional rest place of Virgin Mary (the “DORMITION”) on Mount Zion. The round church, completed in 1910, bears icons and decorations relating the site also to the “PENTACOST”.

In the lower crypt an abony sculpture of Mary in a sleeping position elludes to her Dormition and Assumption by Jesus. In the lower floor remains of the Crusaders church can also be seen.

Nearby is the site commemorating the last Supper (Cenacle), King David’s Tomb Mark, The Armenian church commemorating the House of Caiaphas, the high priest who questioned Jesus, The Catholic site commemorating the same (Petrus in Gallicantu complex), and more.
