‘Kol Shofar’ – Shofar Making Workshop
Established in 1998, ‘Kol Shofar’ (from Hebrew: Sound of Ram’s horn) is the vision of Shimon Keinan, a Moroccan Jew who combined his childhood blowing shofar talent with his mechanical skills. Operating in a workshop in the shouthern Golan Heights, Shimon produces Shofarot using traditional and new special techniques that he has developed. Realizing the public interest in his work, Shimon invites families and groups to participate in sessions where they learn and partake in the manufacturing of a shofar. The activity begins with a study session on how to blow the shofar and tell a kosher Shofar. It continues in his workshop, where, with wit and humor, the group is introduced to all stages of turning a Ram’s horn into a Shofar.
This activity is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning about biblical rituals and is a perfect activity to combine with a Bar-Mitzvah tour in Israel.
A tour of ‘Kol Shofar’ can be combined with multi-day tour in Israel that will include exploring the Golan Heights.
