Modi’in is a modern town founded in the 1990’s in the vicinity of ancient Modi’im, hometown of the Hasmoneans.

The Hasmonean lead in the 2nd century BCE the Maccabean revolt, which is marked in Judaism to this day by Hannukah lights festival.

Through out the modern city there are several sites that may relate to ancient Modi’in, most famous is the ancient synagogue at Umm el-Umdan.
