First Century Model of Jerusalem
Even being a 1:50 scale model, this impressive presentation of Jerusalem in the first century is anything but a miniature. Covering an area of 2,000 square meters (21,520-square-foot), this model is a detailed proposal of Jerusalem’s image before 70 AD. Its scientific consultant, Prof. Avi-Yona, combined historical sources and archaeological research to weave in Jerusalem some 2,000 years ago in unprecedented detail. Its focal point is the grand Jewish Temple and the Temple Mount, echoing the scale of Herod’s most remarkable building project. Originally created in the 1960s on the premises of the Holyland Hotel, in 2010, its entirety was moved to the Israel Museum and set next to the Shrine of the Book.
A tour of the Israel Museum can be combined in a day tour of Jerusalem.
