Euthymius monastery was founded as a hermits monastery (“Laura”) in the Judean Desert in the 5th Century. It developed into a monastery in Byzantine and Crusaders period, and accomodated pilgrims headed to the Baptismal site (Qasr el-Yahud ).
Today its remains lie in the middle of a commercial and industrial zone of Eastern Jerusalem, in sharp and bizzare contrast.
