The Chapel of the Finding of the Cross is believed to be the place where Queen Helena uncovered in the early 4th century pieces of wood, and one, healing a sick women by miracle, was identified as part of the “True Cross”.
Archaeolgical investigation suggests the chapel was originally a quarry, and later a water reservoir. The local tradition argues that later the place became a dump site, and so the cross used for the crucifixion of Jesus was thrown there after use. Yet when it was rediscovered, it miracously healed a sick women, proving it is indeed the “True Cross”.
