Job’s Spring and Waterfall
1.5 miles west of Capernaum and just 1500 feet from the Church of the Primacy of Peter is one of the Sea of Galilee’s best secrets: a hidden waterfall above the sea.
The waterfall was formed by modern drilling next to one of Tabgha’s warm water springs. The water, erupting around 80 Fahrenheit, is emptied into the Sea of Galilee. In the winter, the 13-foot drop forms a mist resembling a mystical aura. In antiquity, the water filled a round pool next to the cave associated with Job.
According to local Muslim and Druze traditions, here Job soaked his body after being afflicted with a disease. Being so, some call the waterfall “Job’s spring” or “Job’s Waterfall” and believe its water has a therapeutic value. Nearby is a cave said to be where he rested and cured (Job’s Cave).
Reaching Job’s Waterfall
The site is open and free of charge but not so easy to reach. The closest parking lot is next to the church of the Primacy of Peter. There are no signs on the site, nor is it always clean.
A visit to Capernaum’s Hidden Waterfall can be combined with a guided day tour of the Galilee.
