Located on the Eastern shore of the Dead Sea, the mysterious site of Bab Edh-Dhra contains thousands (!) of tombs from the Early Bronze age. In many of them one can still find pottery shards of offerings that were placed in the tombs. Believed to be associates with the Biblical stories of Sodom and Gomorrah, the site provides an important understanding to how Biblical narratives developed. 6 km south of Bab edh-Dhra is a site with similar finds called “Numeirah” which might even preseves the Biblical name of “Gomorrah”. Near Bab edh-Dhra, south of the junction of roads 50 and 65 is Kh. Qazone, which yielded 3500 tombs (!) from the Roman period, similar to the ones found in Qumran
.
