According to the Bible Aaron the brother of Moses died while the Israelites were sojourning in the desert and was buried in “Hor Hahar” which was “By the border of the land of Edom” (Numbers 20:23).
The tomb site is identified since the First Century CE at the vicinity of Petra.Known in Arabic as “Jabal Harun” (“Aaron’s mountain”) the tomb mark is on a remote summit near petra that can only be reached by foot or on a donkey and is long hike. The currect “Makam” was built some 500 years ago.
