Set along the northern edge of the Ramon Crater, ‘Mitzpe Ramon’ (in Hebrew: ‘Ramon Observation Point’) is one of the most remote town in Israel. Founded in 1951 for the workers building the road to Eilat, Mizpe Ramon retained its special rural character and attracting people seeking serine desert landscapes. It also includes an exhibition in memory of Ilan Ramon, Israel’s first astronaut, who died in the 2003 Columbia disaster. Ramon grew up in the south, and his family is named after the crater.

The hikes and tours in the crater itself can be combined with a Camel ride, or a Bedouin hospitality experience. At night the crater is also a popular destination for stargazing. Its remote position and high altitude make the crater an ideal spot for viewing stars and planets, with minimal light and dust pollution.
