Bethlehem, Jericho, and the Baptism Site

Tour to Bethlehem, Jericho and the Baptism Site

Parts of the West Bank in Judea and Samaria are under Palestinian control since the 1990’s, including Bethlehem and Jericho. Being so, we teamed with a Palestinian guide to provide the service of a private tour to these unique destinations. This extraordinary pilgrimage offers a unique opportunity to explore three profoundly significant locations, each playing a pivotal role in the rich tapestry of biblical history and spirituality.

Itinerary of the Day

Morning – Expore Bethlehem, the Birthplace of Jesus

church of the nativity bethlehemOur journey begins in the ancient city of Bethlehem, a place forever enshrined in Christian tradition as the birthplace of Jesus Christ. As you step into the streets of this historic town, you’ll be transported back in time, walking in the footsteps of Mary and Joseph. The Church of the Nativity, a UNESCO World Heritage site, awaits your exploration. Here, you will have the privilege of entering the Grotto of the Nativity, a place where it is believed that Jesus was born. The sense of awe and reverence in this sacred space is truly profound, allowing you to connect with the miraculous birth of Jesus in a deeply personal way. Time permitting you could also visit the remarkable Roman-Catholic church is built over the site of the Shepherds’ Field.

Noon – Tour Jericho, the City Whose Walls Collapsed

Next on our journey is Jericho, often referred to as the “City of Palm Trees.” Jericho holds immense biblical significance as the place where, according to the Book of Joshua, the walls of the city fell miraculously after the Israelites marched around it for seven days. Explore the archaeological ruins and ancient excavations that reveal the layers of history beneath the surface. Stand at the site of one of the world’s oldest inhabited cities and contemplate the stories of faith, perseverance, and divine intervention that have unfolded here. A Cable car ride above the mound will comfortably lead you to the Monastery of the Temptation. Here, by Christian tradition, Jesus resisted some Satan’s temptation.

Time permitting,  we could also view Herod’s winter palaces (Tulul abu el-alayiq), or the 8th Century CE Hisham’s Palace that was destroyed by a devestating earthquake.

Did you Know?

Aside being conquered by the Israelites by circling it with the Ark, Jericho is also known for being one of the oldest cities in the world. Its earliest remains are about 10,000 year old.

Afternoon – The Baptism Site, A Profound Spiritual Renewal

Jordan River baptism siteOur final destination is the Baptism Site, located along the banks of the Jordan River. This serene and sacred location marks the spot where it is believed that John the Baptist baptized Jesus. As you approach the river’s edge, you’ll be met with a sense of tranquility and spirituality that is hard to describe. The flowing waters of the Jordan River provide a backdrop to a deeply moving experience—the opportunity to renew your faith through baptism. Indeed, our private tour to the Baptism Site allows you to partake in this sacred sacrament in a serene and intimate setting. You will have time for personal reflection and prayer before entering the waters, where the act of baptism takes on a profound significance.
