Avital Volcanic Park
Avital Volcanic Park was opened in 2013 in a former basalt quarry in the Golan Heights, not far from the border with Syria. The park is part of a national project to turn abandoned quarries into public parks. At its center, a volcano model demonstrates lava spewing from the rock, which is even more amusing at night. Other displays present additional unique characteristics of the local geomorphology. Most popular is the funny fact that propelled rocks in this area are characterized by reversed magnetism. If you use an accurate compass (i.e., not on a smartphone app!), the needle spins from the local electromagnetic forces.
A tour of Avital Volcanic Park can be combined with multi-day tour in Israel that will include exploring the Golan Heights.
