A Brief Historical Review
Since the 4th century pilgrims identified Mount of Beatitudes near Capernaum. In the 1930s the Franciscans built the current church on a hill overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Its striking octagonal design embodies the core teachings of Jesus as expressed in the eight Beatitudes. Each Beatitude, represented by stunning stained glass, imparts a profound spiritual message of Jesus. The gardens surrounding the church offer a peaceful environment to wander and reflect on the Jesus’ universal messages of love, compassion and peace.
Touring the Mount of Beatitudes
A visit to the Mount of Beatitudes is an opportunity both to connect with the profound spiritual teachings of Jesus but and immerse yourself in the breathtaking natural beauty of the Galilean landscape. The Church is open every day of the week but closes for 2 hours for a noon break. The entry is free but there is a charge for parking. When entering the church, visitors are requested to dress modestly and speak softly.
It is recommended to combine a the tour to Mount of Beatitudes with a day tour of the Galilee.
